Today in celebration of Valentine's Day, three of my Kindergarten classes created Valen-Slime (Thanks to
Mama Papa Bubba Blog for the idea). We watched as the slime took form, observed with our senses, and then each student got to take some Valen-Slime home!
Valen-Slime Recipe (Makes about 20 fist-size servings)Ingredients: Glue Mixture - 3 cups white glue
- 2 ¼ cups hot water
- Food coloring
Instructions: | Borax Mixture - 1 ½ cups hot water
- 3 ½ tablespoons Borax
|
- Put 3 cups of white glue into a bowl
- Pour 2 1/4 cups hot water over glue and add the food coloring of your choice
- Stir!
- In a separate container, mix together 1 1/2 cups hot water and 3 1/2 tablespoons of Borax.
- Stir until the Borax is dissolved.
- Pour the Borax mixture into the glue mixture, stirring as you pour.
- Knead the Valen-slime until it is soft and stretchy.
Enjoy! Use your senses to explore (but do not use your sense of taste!)
**If planning to store in a bag, add some of the leftover liquid from the bowl into the bag with your Valen-Slime!
This week Kindergarten learned the difference between things we need and things we want. We read the book The Bag I'm Taking to Grandma's and discussed what our basic needs were versus the things that are just nice to have.
Here is an example of a Kindergarten student's Needs vs. Wants book. Each student came up with two examples for wants. Kindergarten also completed an assessment for this unit, sorting pictures for Needs and Wants into a T-chart.
Mrs. Aichele's Class Spotlight:
Kid Quotes of what we learned this week!
"We learned about things we need and don't need. Don't need toys, but we need a house"
"Shelter is a need"
"Carrots and peaches are food we need"
